Macbook Screen Repair - Is It Worth It?

Screen repair is something that can sometimes throw your whole day off, you accidentally closed the lid on your keyboard with yours keys or dropped your Macbook Pro or Macbook Air that managed to completely smash or crack your screen or perhaps even your Imac managed to catch some damage?

The good news is, the hardware (depending on the drop of course) is okay. Data recovery is still easy to perform, given the hard drive was not damaged in the process and the motherboard will still function well. You can actually plug in an external monitor and use that as your display if you need to until you do repair it or if you simply want to test your Mac, just need the right cable for it depending on the model.

Now is the question of price. Here is something I tend to be straight up when it comes to mac repairs, they cost a lot more than your standard windows laptop. Macbook Air/Pro screen even 2015 models can easily set you in the $500 range for a replacement screen and even Imac 27'“ 2011 model can be upwards of $700, which is a 9-year-old Mac. There would be some deals on eBay where the price includes installation but you get the idea of the price.

There are alternatives, you can always opt-in for second-hand screens. These do offer a much cheaper alternative for those that would like to save, however, the price difference isn’t astronomical.

The third option which I often end up referring to is to purchase another second-hand unit. The price difference between a purchase of a complete working Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, and Imac, is usually the cheaper option as compared to screen cost + labor in repairs.

Whatever choice you do just be aware of inflated costs of these screens and if you do get a quote in the $700+ ballpark, it is pretty standard, but always be aware that there are alternatives.
